UFC Fighter Cain Velasquez Arrested for Attempted Murder After California Shooting
Cain Velasquez was arrested on an attempted murder charge in San Jose, California, TMZ Sports reports.
The UFC icon has been in police custody since at least Tuesday morning, and authorities have since verified that Velasquez was involved in the alleged shooting. “The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation at this time,” police said. His mugshot has also been released.
The 38-year-old is implicated in a shooting that took place near a San Jose high school at about 3 p.m. PT on Monday. Per TMZ, it was previously reported that one person was arrested and another was injured, though Velasquez wasn’t named in the shooting at the time. He now has a court date set for Wednesday at 12 p.m. PT.
The California native is a legend who’s known as one of the best heavyweight MMA fighters ever. In addition to his career with the UFC, he also spent some time with the WWE. Velazquez attended Arizona State University as a star collegiate wrestler where he was 2-time All-American.
